Clover Health Investments (NASDAQ: CLOV) Unveils Plans To Expand Medicare Advantage to 108 More Counties

Clover Health Investments (NASDAQ: CLOV) has unveiled plans to double the company’s geographic footprint subject to CMS approval. With the expansion, the company’s Medicare Advantage (MA) plans to all qualifying people in 209 counties in nine states.

Medicare Qualifying individuals in the new counties can enroll in the company’s plans during the Annual Election Period, running from October 15 through December 7, 2022, with coverage beginning January 1, 2022.

Medicare Advantage plans expanded to 108 counties

Currently, Clover’s Medicare Advantage plans are available in 108 counties, serving roughly 66,300 people. The expansion will cover 101 counties, with 94 of those in Clover’s current states of Georgia, South Carolina, New Jersey, and Texas.  There other seven will be in Alabama, which is a new state Clover is entering. There are plans in place for residents of Arizona, Pennsylvania, Mississippi, and Tennessee.

Clover Health’s CEO Andrew Toy said that the company’s high-value, inexpensive, open-network plans and data-driven, individualized care available through their support tool, the Clover Assistant, will be available to more seniors. Many of them reside in rural locations and are more prone to encounter health inequalities. Toy said they expect to enhance care coordination and solve gaps by equipping an extensive network of primary care physicians with the Clover Assistant. This will ultimately improve the quality of treatment and cut total medical expenses for more Medicare qualifying people in underserved communities. He said that the company would focus much more on expanding Clover’s programs to eligible people in these disadvantaged areas in the future.

Clover to end co-branding deal with Walmart in Georgia

Clover will end its existing co-branding deal with Walmart in eight Georgia counties going into 2022, and all of the company’s plans will be operated purely under the Clover name. However, there won’t be significant changes to the benefits offered in that plan, and Clover anticipates minor inconvenience for its members.
