NXP Semiconductors NV (NASDAQ:NXPI), a world leading supplier of semiconductors recently unveiled the MPC-LS chipset. The vehicle network-processing chip is a successful fusion of the NXP automotive MPC5748G microcontroller with the enterprise networking LS1043A communications processor.
This is for provision of the high-level performance and network that the Service-Oriented gateways require. Contrary to mainstream expectations, NXPs stock has seen a decline following this announcement with their most recent trading session closing at $91.88 having opened the business day at $92.99.
The high crop of services targeting the automotive ecosystem are estimated to hit the $750 billion mark in revenue as of 2030. Services such as usage-base insurance, predictive maintenance and over-the-air upgradable vehicles are expected to transform the automotive industry with incentives. These incentives include opportunities for new revenue, enhanced user experience, improved safety and security and most importantly, reduced costs.
About the MPC-LS-VNP-EVB Chipset
The MPC-LS-VNP-EVB is an evaluation and development board engineered for Vehicle Network Processing applications. It combines real-time processing and applications processing in a remarkably unique way.
The essential features of the new chipset are; High-performance quad-core, 64-bit Arm® processors for services and edge analytics, One 10 Gigabit and five Gigabit Ethernet interfaces for high-bandwidth networking, Ethernet packet acceleration offloads processors to provide valued services, and Real-time processing of vehicle data from CAN FD, LIN and FlexRay™ networks
Hardware security for trusted boot, cryptography and secure key management
Jake Alamat, vice president of Automotive Connectivity and Security at NXP championed the powerful combination of automotive and enterprise network processing technology as having the ability to “enable new era of vehicleservices and edge processing.” He also complemented the solution as having had good reception among the automakers. It is marked to make a debut in volume vehicle production in 2020.
NXP And Airbiquity Combined Demo At Embedded 2019
NXP is scheduled to demonstrate the MPC-LS VNP Evaluation Board (EVB) integrated with Airbiquity’s OTAmaticTM over-the-air (OTA) software and data management services at embedded world in the course of the year. Keefe Leung, director of product management for Airbiquity, a service provider in the growing ecosystem, commented on this combined demo stating how it would provide advanced features requested by carmakers that have the capacity to support future services.
