Velodyne Lidar Inc. (NASDAQ: VLDR) Introduces New Software Development Kit Allowing clients Leverage Vella Lidar Perception Solution

Velodyne Lidar Inc. (NASDAQ: VLDR) has announced its latest software development kit that permits the use of advanced capabilities of its Vella lidar perception solution in autonomous applications.

VDK allows firms to introduce lidar features to various applications

The Vella Development Kit helps firms to quickly introduce the latest lidar features to autonomous vehicles, mobile delivery devices, advanced driver assistance systems, drones, industrial robotics, and other applications to the market.

By lowering the effort and time necessary to incorporate 3D lidar sensors into apps, VDK lets firms better use available development resources. Notably, the Vella processing tools in VDK transform raw point cloud data into richer and more comprehensive data in real-time. For example, object classification, semantic scene segmentation, obstacle detection, and velocity measurement and are examples of higher-level perception outputs that may be used directly by autonomous system designers without a comprehensive understanding of lidar processing.

Velodyne Lidar Software Engineering VP Vishal Jain said, “The Vella Development Kit supports customers through the entire autonomous solution development lifecycle, from testing and evaluating sensors, to building initial proofs of concept, to demonstrating complete applications. VDK enables developers and integrators to see the world differently by connecting them to the complete array of robust perception capabilities provided by Vella. They also have ongoing access to all the latest innovations that result from Velodyne’s continued leadership deploying lidar solutions throughout the world. VDK demonstrates Velodyne’s prowess in providing revolutionary sensors and software that allow companies to create autonomous solutions which transform lives through the advancement of safer mobility.”

Velodyne to introduce two new versions of VDK

The company intends to add two new models to the VDK lineup in the coming days. Vella Development Kit Lite will have a smaller collection of the most critical processing functionalities and is less expensive. In addition, for the most demanding client applications, VDK Enterprise will offer a full spectrum of design modification, new feature creation, and support services.
